Museums
The North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh, NC has a world class collection, as well as visiting exhibitions.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, located in New York City, is the largest museum in the US and contains many fine portraits including Ingres’ portrait of Princesse de Broglie.
The Frick Collection is a museum housed in the former residence of industrialist Henry Clay Frick on Fifth Avenue in New York City. It has an outstanding collection of Old Master paintings including a self portrait of Rembrandt and Holbein’s portrait of Thomas More.
The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston has one of the most comprehensive collections in America and includes many works by John Singer Sargent.
The National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC strives to tell the story of America by portraying the people who have shaped our nation. h
Visiting the Louvre Museum in Paris, France is an artist’s dream come true. Some of my favorite portrait and figure paintings were by Leonardo de Vinci, Paul Delaroche, and Veronese.
Known for its extensive collection of impressionistic painting, the Musee d’Orsay also has a rich collection of figure paintings by Academic Masters such as Bouguereau, Gerome, and Ingres.
The Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy contains many of the most important works of the Renaissance including the Doni Tondo by Michelangelo and The Birth of Venus by Botticelli
The Gallerie dell’ Accademia in Venice, Italy contains the largest collection of Venetian paintings from the 14th to the 18th centuries.
