Portrait Procedure

  1. Planning –  Lori works closely with her clients to create a beautiful work of art and to make the process enjoyable. The portrait process begins with a meeting to discuss the portrait’s size, setting, background, and style.  The subject’s clothing, expression, and pose will also be considered.
  2. Photography – Lori works from her own photographs of the subject, taken at the artist’s studio in Chapel Hill, your home, or local setting.  The photo shoot will last approximately one to two hours.  Any additional time will be charged at $100 per hour.  The artist will review the photographs and work with the client to select the photograph(s) for reference.
  3. Painting – Working with care, the artist will paint your portrait by hand, using the finest archival paints on premium linen canvas or highest quality pastel paper.
  4. Presentation – Lori will present the finished portrait to you for your approval. Oil portraits are delivered with a preliminary coat of varnish.  A final coat of varnish will be provided when the oil painting is completely dry,  approximately six months after completion.  Lori is willing to help her clients select a frame.
